The company stated, “120,000 Israelis in cities and towns from north to south experienced power outages due to a malfunction in the generation stations… The causes of this disruption are under investigation.”
Israel Electric Corporation also noted, “The halt of a production unit led to congestion and power outages in several locations across the country.”
According to the company, “Backup generation units were activated, and power has been restored in some areas.”
In December last year, a nationwide power outage was reported in Israel, which, as the Israel Electric Corporation clarified at the time, was due to a fault, not a cyberattack as suggested by some media outlets.
Per the company, the system underwent a “load shedding” operation, followed by the activation of new generation units to address the malfunction.
Meanwhile, the Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth expressed doubts about a potential “cyberattack” being the cause of the widespread power outages in the country. According to the newspaper, residents reported power outages in several settlements.
The recent war in Gaza, initiated on October 7, 2023, marked a significant escalation in the ongoing Israel-Palestine conflict. This war, which is part of a series of conflicts between Israel and Hamas-led Palestinian militant groups, began with a surprise offensive by these groups against Israel, characterized by a barrage of rockets and the breaching of the Gaza-Israel barrier by militants. This offensive resulted in significant casualties and sparked a series of retaliatory actions by Israel, including a tight blockade, evacuation orders for parts of Gaza, and a large-scale military operation dubbed “Operation Swords of Iron” aimed at neutralizing Hamas and rescuing hostages.
The war has led to a devastating humanitarian crisis in Gaza, with thousands of deaths and injuries, extensive destruction of infrastructure, and severe shortages of essential supplies. The international community has expressed concerns about the scale of the destruction and the impact on civilians, with calls for a ceasefire and a resolution to the broader Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
