In a meeting between Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Israeli President Isaac Herzog in Munich, the US Department of State issued a statement outlining discussions on efforts to release hostages in Gaza and secure a humanitarian pause for increased aid flow.
During the meeting, Blinken reiterated the United States’ stance that it could not endorse a military ground operation in Rafah without a credible and implementable plan ensuring the safety of the over one million people taking shelter there, as stated by spokesperson Matthew Miller.
The Secretary underscored the importance of all parties taking measures to protect civilians and prevent the conflict from escalating. Emphasizing the US commitment to lasting peace in the region, Blinken highlighted the goal of establishing a Palestinian state with guaranteed security for Israel. The statement reflects the US call for careful consideration and a comprehensive approach to ensure the safety of the civilian population in the midst of ongoing tensions.
