Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani held talks with NATO’s Joint Force Command’s Admiral Stuart Munsch.
The discussions, which took place on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference 2024 this Friday, covered a broad range of security issues in the region, highlighting the ongoing cooperation between NATO’s mission and Iraqi security forces.
This cooperation is particularly notable in areas such as training and intelligence coordination.
According to the Iraqi News Agency (INA), the meeting addressed several key issues related to logistical support for NATO’s mission in Iraq, especially in the wake of the international coalition’s withdrawal from the fight against ISIS.
The meeting comes at a critical juncture, as the Netherlands is set to take over the leadership of NATO’s mission in Iraq in May.
Prime Minister Al-Sudani praised the level of collaboration between the Iraqi Armed Forces and NATO, emphasizing the importance of such coordination in bolstering regional and international security and stability.
Admiral Munsch, on his part, expressed his appreciation for the Iraqi government’s support and facilitation of NATO’s efforts in the country, underscoring the constructive role Iraq plays in maintaining security in the region.
This dialogue between Iraq and NATO signifies a continued commitment to security and stability, reflecting the broader international effort to address security challenges in the Middle East and beyond.
