Lebanon has requested the United Nations Security Council to exert pressure on Israel to halt the escalation and take all necessary measures to stop Israeli aggressions on its territory and people. This request aims to prevent the conflict from worsening and dragging the entire region into a comprehensive and uncontrollable war.

This plea was part of an official complaint Lebanon submitted to the UN Security Council regarding a series of Israeli attacks on civilian targets two days ago, marking the most severe and bloody incidents since the onset of border tensions between southern Lebanon and Israel on October 8th of last year.

Lebanon’s acting Foreign Minister, Abdullah Bou Habib, instructed Lebanon’s permanent representative to the United Nations to file a complaint with the UN Security Council yesterday.

The Lebanese Foreign Ministry stated in a Friday release that the complaint included an incident where an Israeli drone targeted a residential building in Nabatiyeh, southern Lebanon, with a guided missile, killing 10 people, including women and children. This toll is provisional as search efforts for more victims under the rubble continue.

The ministry added that the raid caused significant damage to the targeted building, leaving it at risk of collapse due to severe cracks, forcing other residents to evacuate. Nearby residential buildings and parked cars, as well as the electricity and telephone networks, were also damaged.

On the same day, a drone also targeted the home of Lebanese citizen Jalal Mohsen in the town of Sawaneh, southern Lebanon, killing his wife and two sons, aged 13 and 2 years old.

The Lebanese Foreign Ministry highlighted that international humanitarian law guarantees the protection of civilians. It considered Israel’s deliberate and direct bombing of civilians in their homes a violation of international humanitarian law and a war crime, exposing everyone involved, directly or indirectly, to international accountability.

The ministry emphasized that the bombardment violates Lebanon’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and citizen safety, as well as all United Nations resolutions demanding Israel cease its violations of Lebanese sovereignty and end its occupation of Lebanese territories, including Resolution 1701 (issued in 2006).

The Lebanese Foreign Ministry expressed concern that this escalation comes at a time when international efforts and diplomatic movements for de-escalation are intensifying. Given Lebanon’s rejection of war and its proposal of a roadmap for achieving lasting security in southern Lebanon, the ministry urged the international community to pressure Israel to restrain its ongoing, escalating aggressions.

The complaint reiterated the need for UN Security Council members to collectively condemn the Israeli attacks against Lebanon to prevent the situation from deteriorating further and to widen the war. It also repeated the call for the UN Security Council to clearly condemn Israel’s direct, deliberate, and repeated targeting of civilians.
