In a significant move towards peace, CIA Director William Burns, Mossad Chief David Barnea, and Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani joined Egyptian officials in Cairo on Tuesday to discuss the potential for a truce in Gaza.

The high-level meeting, reported by Egypt’s Al-Qahera News, comes amid escalating international calls for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, following a devastating conflict in the Gaza Strip that has claimed over 28,000 lives according to health officials.

The meeting is part of ongoing efforts by Qatar and Egypt, with backing from the United States, to mediate between the conflicting parties and bring an end to the hostilities.

A truce proposal, initially negotiated in Paris with Israeli representatives, has been under consideration by both sides in recent weeks.

Hamas, along with other militant factions in Gaza, is keenly awaiting the outcomes of the Cairo discussions. An anonymous Hamas official conveyed to AFP the group’s openness to any initiative that would halt the aggression and bring the war to an end.

This pursuit of peace aligns with international warnings directed at Israel, particularly from the United States and the United Nations, against launching a ground invasion into Rafah, a city in southern Gaza where over a million Palestinians reside under dire conditions.
