Palestinian Justice Minister Dr. Mohamed Shalaldeh said that Israel is obligated to comply with the International Court of Justice’s (ICJ) ruling on the Gaza Strip.

In an interview on the Cairo News channel, Shalaldeh said that the ICJ’s ruling is a “legal victory against injustice and tyranny,” but that it does not achieve statehood or self-determination for the Palestinian people.

Shalaldeh said that Israel is obligated to comply with the ruling because it is a party to the Genocide Convention, the Statute of the ICJ, and the UN Charter.

He added that Israel’s participation in the ICJ proceedings is a sign that it will comply with the ruling. If Israel fails to comply, South Africa could bring the case to the UN Security Council, which is responsible for enforcing ICJ rulings.
