In a tragic incident, dozens of displaced civilians lost their lives and many others sustained injuries as Israeli artillery shelled a UNRWA-run educational building serving as a shelter for the displaced in Khan Yunis, located in the southern Gaza Strip.

The UNRWA training center, which was providing refuge for tens of thousands of displaced individuals, became the target of the Israeli artillery, resulting in numerous casualties. The shelling ignited a fire within the center, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis in the region. Reports indicate that the building had been under a strict military siege for several days prior to the attack.

In addition to the assault on the UNRWA center, the Palestine Red Crescent Society (PCRS) reported that Israeli forces are encircling its teams within its headquarters and Al-Amal Hospital in Khan Yunis. The imposition of a curfew in the vicinity further compounds the challenges faced by humanitarian organizations attempting to provide aid and medical assistance.

Medical sources underscored the dire situation at the Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Yunis, emphasizing the urgent need for medical supplies, food, and fuel. The complex houses hundreds of injured and sick individuals, including maternity cases facing serious complications due to the ongoing siege. The tragic events highlight the intensifying humanitarian crisis in the region.
