Recent reports indicate that a substantial influx of 3,800 Bangladeshis has occurred in Libya over the past two months, with aspirations of heading to Italy, as detailed by The Times.

The majority of these migrants reportedly flew to Libya through Turkey or the United Arab Emirates, paying approximately 8,000 euros, inclusive of their boat journey to Italy from the Libyan shores of Zuwara city.

Libyan political analyst Abdulkader Assad, cited by The Times, explained that many Bangladeshis and Pakistanis legally travel to Libya through employment contracts with cleaning companies. Most of these individuals then make their way to Zuwara, where they embark on boats bound for Europe.

In parallel, the Italian Ministry of the Interior disclosed that a significant number of immigrants, totaling 150,000, entered its territory from January to November 20, 2023.

Of these, more than 47,000 immigrants arrived from Libyan territory, with 30,000 originating from the western region and 17,000 from the eastern region.

Adding to the complexity of the situation, the Italian Nova News Agency reported that around 14,000 immigrants were intercepted in the Mediterranean and returned to Libya between January and November 10, 2023.
