In a successful joint operation led by the Turkish Intelligence Organization (MIT) and the Istanbul police counter-terrorism and intelligence branches, dozens of individuals suspected to be members of the terrorist group ISIS were apprehended in Turkey.
The operation, spanning nine provinces with a focus on the Istanbul metropolis, resulted in the detention of 32 suspects, with 25 of them subsequently arrested.
The arrests came in response to intelligence indicating a plot to carry out attacks on churches and synagogues within the country. Judicial and security sources, requesting anonymity due to media communication restrictions, provided details on the coordinated efforts that led to the successful operation.
Of the detained individuals, two are scheduled for deportation, one has been placed under house arrest, and four were released under judicial control measures.
The decisive action taken by Turkey’s security forces underscores the ongoing efforts to thwart potential terrorist threats and safeguard religious institutions within the country.
