The leader of Sudan’s paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, visited Ethiopia on Thursday as part of a publicly announced foreign tour. During his visit, Dagalo discussed the urgent need for a swift resolution to the conflict between the RSF and the Sudanese army.

This follows his recent meeting with Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni.

Diplomatic efforts, including talks led by Saudi Arabia and the United States in Jeddah, have shown limited progress in bringing an end to the conflict in Sudan.

The RSF has made military gains, seizing control of Wad Madani, a major Sudanese city, and consolidating its influence in the western region of Darfur.

Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed welcomed Dagalo and his delegation to discuss strategies for securing peace and stability in Sudan.

Pictures posted by Prime Minister Abiy showed them engaged in discussions around a restaurant table.

Ethiopian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Demeke Mekonnen also met with Dagalo at Ethiopia’s Bole International Airport.

In a statement, Hemedti emphasized the importance of ending the war and addressing the historical crisis in Sudan, aiming to alleviate the hardships faced by the Sudanese people.

Social media posts from Hemedti and Ethiopia’s foreign ministry depicted his arrival on a Royal Jet aircraft from the United Arab Emirates, which had flown from Abu Dhabi to Uganda’s Entebbe airport.
