The British government faces scrutiny over a secretive move to provide an additional £100 million to Rwanda for accommodating asylum seekers, as reported by The Guardian.

An initial payment of £140 million was made in April, with an expected further £50 million to be provided next year, as revealed by Matthew Rycroft, a senior civil servant at the UK Home Office.

UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s introduction of an emergency law to override European Court of Human Rights judgments has sparked controversy and led to the resignation of Immigration Minister Robert Jenrick.

Newly appointed Immigration Minister Tom Pursglove reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the Rwanda asylum plan, stating the legislation would address legal challenges previously raised against deportations to Rwanda.

Pursglove emphasized the bill’s role in stopping boat crossings and praised Sunak’s leadership on this critical national issue.
