In the wake of the floods that have been hitting Turkey since the beginning of the month, water levels in some streets have risen to the point where residents have resorted to using boats as a means of transportation to their workplaces, due to the difficulty of moving cars.

Heavy rains resulting from thunderstorms have caused floods that have submerged and filled the streets in several cities, with more waves of rain expected in the coming days.

Videos shared on social media platforms show seven men from the city of Samsun aboard a boat navigating the water currents in the streets, with some of them rowing the boat through the heavy waters on their way to work.

In the capital city, Ankara, heavy rains have caused floods, turning the streets into rivers that sweep away cars. One family was seen attempting to climb out of their car window to escape the rising water.

These floods come after heavy rains along the coastline of the Black Sea in the northern part of the country, which resulted in the death of at least three people a week ago.

The Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) has issued a warning of heavy rainstorms and thunderstorms in 11 provinces.

Turkey has been experiencing waves of severe floods and torrential rains in its northern regions, alongside forest fires in the south, over the past two years. This sharp increase in natural disasters is attributed by environmental researchers to climate change.
