Today in Cairo, a crucial meeting commenced between the Fatah and Hamas movements to discuss several internal issues amid the current situation.
According to Cairo News Channel, citing unnamed sources, the gathering aims to coordinate Palestinian internal affairs in light of recent developments, focusing on managing border crossings and addressing health, relief, shelter, social development, and education.
Representatives from both Fatah and Hamas arrived in Cairo in the past few hours to deliberate on various proposals, primarily concerning the future of the Gaza Strip, which has been under Israeli military action for a year.
Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammed Mustafa revealed a few days ago that a meeting in Cairo between Fatah and Hamas was held to facilitate an understanding of certain matters that would help organize the situation in Gaza.
Mustafa confirmed that the Palestinian Authority would govern Gaza the day after the conflict ends, emphasizing that the authority and its institutions, including employees in the education and health sectors, are already present and operational in Gaza.
Mustafa further stated, “The Palestinian Authority will manage the sector with all the capabilities of the Palestinian people, without exclusion. We are prepared to take responsibility and fulfil our duties.”
Yesterday, Mustafa announced the formation of a national team led by the Ministry of Planning, with participation from relevant ministries, to spearhead the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip.
He affirmed the government’s ongoing commitment to bolster the resilience of the people in Gaza and the West Bank.
UN senior humanitarian official in Gaza, Jonathan Whittall, described the past year as “a year of destruction, displacement, and despair.” He stated, “Gaza has been completely devastated.”
Whittall emphasized that “it is impossible to describe the scale of destruction in Gaza. Nearly the entire population has been displaced and is now confined to just 13% of the total area of the strip.
