Elon Musk, the CEO of X, formerly known as Twitter, recently announced that the platform will reintroduce headline previews in URL cards.
This decision reverses last month’s removal of titles from URL previews.
Musk shared that an upcoming update will feature the headline at the top part of the URL card’s image, though he did not specify a release date or provide a visual example.
Previously in August, Musk, also the head of Tesla, had stated that X intended to remove titles from URL previews for aesthetic reasons. This led to the actual removal of headlines in October. As a result, users had to click on the URL cards to see the headlines, prompting publishers to adapt by including headlines in the image or posting them separately.
The reversal of this decision could simplify things for publishers, who will no longer need to create custom formats. However, the effectiveness of this change depends on the new card’s design.
X has been facing challenges recently, with major advertisers like Apple, Disney, and Comcast halting their spending due to Musk’s support of antisemitic comments. Adding to the turmoil, Paris Hilton’s 11:11 Media ended its partnership with X, only weeks after its initiation.
In a separate development, Musk filed a lawsuit against Media Matters, accusing them of defamation. This followed a report from the organization that alleged brands such as IBM and Apple had their ads placed next to offensive content on the platform.
X’s CEO, Linda Yaccarino, claimed that the contentious content alongside ads from Comcast, Oracle, and IBM was exclusively seen by Media Matters and not by regular users.
Following these allegations, other companies like the European Commission and Warner Bros Discovery also withdrew their advertising.
Musk threatened a “thermonuclear” lawsuit against Media Matters and anyone involved in what he described as a fraudulent attack.
