Austrian Interior Minister Gerhard Karner has commended Tunisia for making significant strides in border protection. Speaking on the occasion of the inauguration of Tunisia’s new border guard training center in Nafta, Karner emphasized the importance of the topic of immigration during his working meeting with his Tunisian counterpart, Kamel Feki.

According to a statement released today by the Austrian Interior Ministry, Karner stressed the need to prevent people from undertaking perilous sea journeys to Europe, a route that has already resulted in thousands of drownings.

“The key to achieving this is robust border protection and combating human trafficking, and Tunisia has made important progress in this regard,” said the Austrian minister. He highlighted the collaborative efforts between Austria, Denmark, and Tunisia in establishing the training center.

The event also saw Gerhard Karner, Danish Migration Minister Kaare Dybvad Bek, and Tunisian Interior Minister Kamel Feki congratulating participants of the first session who completed their training at the new facility.
