Union Berlin, the German football club, announced on Wednesday that they have terminated the contract of head coach Urs Fischer due to the team’s failure to secure a single victory in 14 consecutive matches and their slide to the bottom of the Bundesliga table.

In a statement, Union Berlin said, “Union Berlin and head coach Urs Fischer are parting ways immediately. The joint decision was made by Dirk Zingler, President of Union, and Fischer himself during a meeting held on Monday.”

Fischer took over as the head coach of Union Berlin in July 2018 and led the team to their first-ever promotion to the Bundesliga in 2019.

Over the past three seasons, Fischer guided Union Berlin to seventh, fifth, and fourth-place finishes in the Bundesliga, securing qualification for the UEFA Conference League, UEFA Europa League, and, for the first time in the club’s history, the UEFA Champions League.

The club stated that Marco Grote, the coach of the U19 team, will temporarily take charge of the first team until further notice.
