Egyptian authorities rescued 26 Egyptians and foreigners after a fire broke out on a tourist boat they were on during a diving trip near Marsa Alam in the southern Red Sea.

The fire completely engulfed the boat. Meanwhile, the search for three other individuals is still underway.

Local Egyptian media reported that the incident started when authorities received a notification about a fire on a tourist boat named “Hercan”, carrying 29 people, both Egyptians, and foreigners, on a sea diving trip.

Twelve English tourists and 14 Egyptian crew members were rescued, while the search for three missing tourists is still ongoing.

The boat had left on June 6 from Marina Porto Ghalib, with its return planned for Sunday. The rescued tourists and boat crew were transported to the beach of Marsa Shagara village.

All are in good health and have not suffered any harm. The search for the three missing tourists around the boat’s vicinity continues.

Images and video clips of the moment the fire broke out on the boat and attempts to rescue the tourists have been circulating on social media platforms in Egypt.

Philippe Lazzarini, the commissioner-general of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), emphasized on Sunday that the Rafah border crossing with Gaza has never been closed by the Egyptian side since the start of the war. Instead, Lazzarini pointed out that it is the Israeli side that hinders the entry of aid, as reported by Al-Qahera News TV channel. While en route to the Gaza Strip to assess the humanitarian situation firsthand, Lazzarini condemned the Israeli war in the strip as a "crime against humanity." He warned of the potential further deterioration of conditions in Gaza if the international community does not take prompt action. Lazzarini expressed concern about the indiscriminate targeting by the Israeli war machine, stating that civilians, including women, children, the elderly, and UNRWA staff, are all victims. He urged the international community and those close to the conflict to intervene in order to bring an end to the war or, at the very least, establish safe humanitarian corridors for aid delivery to the Palestinian people in the besieged strip.
