Bahrain has officially cut off economic ties with Israel and recalled its ambassador from Tel Aviv, according to an announcement by the country’s parliament on Thursday.
The statement on the Bahraini parliament website confirmed that the Israeli ambassador has left Bahrain, and in response, Bahrain has recalled its own ambassador from Israel. Additionally, the decision includes the suspension of all economic relations with Israel.
The parliament’s statement explained that this move is rooted in Bahrain’s “solid and historical stance that supports the Palestinian cause and the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.”
It further emphasized the kingdom’s commitment to preserving the lives of innocent civilians in Gaza and all Palestinian areas.
While the Bahraini Ministry of Foreign Affairs has yet to issue an official statement, the news of the severed ties has been widely reported by various news agencies, including Israeli sources.
It’s noteworthy that Bahrain signed the Abraham Accord with Israel and the UAE in September 2020, marking a historic normalization of diplomatic relations brokered by the United States under the administration of then-President Donald Trump.
