The Kremlin backs President Joe Biden’s call for a new global order, stressing it shouldn’t be solely under US oversight.
On Monday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov shared Russia’s agreement with Biden on the necessity for a new global arrangement. However, he refuted the idea of such a system being under Washington’s patronage alone, according to Russian news agency TASS.
Peskov, in a rare total agreement with Biden, stated that the world indeed needs a new order, but one based on entirely different principles than those advocated by the US.
He elaborated that future global systems should avoid concentrating control mechanisms in a single nation, and any attempts by one power to impose its will and decisions on others.
“The new order should be based on international law, not rules, founded on mutual respect, mutual benefit, and non-interference in each other’s internal affairs,” Peskov added.
He emphasized that regardless of the global system the US envisions, it tends to revolve around the United States. “This current world, centered around the US, will not be the case anymore,” Peskov said.
Regarding Latvia’s President Edgars Rinkēvičs suggestion to block Russian ships from the Baltic Sea, Peskov termed all threats against Russia unacceptable.
He underscored that any threat should be taken seriously, regardless of the source, while reiterating Russia’s non-involvement in the incident damaging the Baltic Connector gas pipeline between Estonia and Finland.
Earlier, Latvia’s President urged NATO to block Russian ships in the Baltic Sea if Russia was found responsible for the pipeline damage, stressing the importance of awaiting the investigation’s conclusion.
