On Thursday, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) welcomed the recently announced agreement reached by the Libyan 6 + 6 Joint Committee for the Preparation of Electoral Laws. This committee is entrusted by the Libyan House of Representatives and the High Council of State to draft laws governing the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections.

The positive announcement came as the Committee’s discussions in the Moroccan city of Bouznika drew to a close.

In an official statement, the UAE’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) praised the Kingdom of Morocco for its role in facilitating successful dialogue, contributing significantly towards the progress made in resolving the political stalemate in Libya. The Ministry highlighted the UAE’s eagerness for the Libyan factions to swiftly ratify the newly agreed electoral laws. This move is seen as a pivotal step towards alleviating the crisis, bolstering security, and ushering in stability in Libya.

Furthermore, the UAE reiterated its call for an amicable solution to the longstanding conflict in Libya. The country reaffirmed its unwavering support for measures aimed at enhancing Libya’s security, stability, and unity in line with the agreed roadmap, United Nations Security Council resolutions, and the ceasefire agreement. This endorsement aims to ensure the success of the impending elections and fulfill the Libyan population’s desires for progress, stability, and affluence.

Members of the Libyan 6+6 Joint Committee announced that they had reached an agreement on presidential and legislative electoral laws, pending the signing of the agreement by the speakers of the House of Representatives (HoR) and the High Council of State (HCS).

In a press conference from Bouznika in Morocco, the head of the HoR delegation at the Committee, Jalal Al-Shuwaidi, explained that they had completed the laws of the presidential elections and the National Assembly in its two chambers, and they are awaiting the presence of HoR and HCS Speakers, Ageela Saleh and Khaled Al-Mishri, for the final decision on these laws.
