In a landmark achievement towards electrical interconnectivity, Ziyad Ali Fadil, the Iraqi Minister of Electricity, declared the full completion of an electrical linkage with Jordan, anticipating the activation of power flow within the coming days.

Speaking on Saturday, Minister Fadil conveyed, “We are in the process of preparing a plan for the summer of 2024 and will also provide a precise and realistic figure, to which we will adhere as we did last summer.” His statements to the Iraqi News Agency (INA) reflect a structured approach towards energy management and regional cooperation.

Fadil emphasized that “all contracts for linkage with neighboring countries are proceeding correctly.” Specifically highlighting the Jordanian connection, he confirmed, “The Jordanian linkage has been completely accomplished between the two countries through the border, and we will launch the current in the coming days.”

Furthermore, the Minister provided assurances about the status of the Gulf-Saudi electrical linkage, stating that it is “proceeding correctly, and there is no problem.”

The Iraqi Electricity Minister reiterated the ministry’s commitment to its 2023 pledge that “the amounts of energy provided for the summer [would be] 24,000 megawatts,” a target that has been successfully achieved this summer. The ministry is now developing a strategy for summer 2024, promising to present a “real and accurate number,” affirming a consistent commitment to electricity provision as demonstrated in the previous summer.

This news underlines Iraq’s progressive strides in electrical infrastructural development and regional collaboration to enhance energy security and consistency in the nation and its neighbors. The robust electrical connectivity, not only with Jordan but also with Gulf-Saudi linkages, paves the way for enhanced regional energy cooperation and stability in Iraq, steering the nation towards a future of energy self-sufficiency and regional interconnectivity.
