Nicos Christodoulides, president of the Republic of Cyprus, called for an initiative to deliver humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip by sea.
During his speech at the Paris conference on the humanitarian situation in Gaza, the Cypriot President said that “Cyprus has provided the largest package of humanitarian assistance through the World Food Program, the Red Cross and UNRWA as the closest country,” expressing concern about what is happening, stressing the need to adopt the necessary measures and collective efforts to resolve this crisis, which requires the establishment of two states.
Regarding the Cyprus maritime initiative in order to continue the continuous, rapid and safe flow of humanitarian assistance in an effective and practical manner, we have developed a comprehensive proposal for the establishment of a safe and orderly one-way sea corridor towards Gaza.
He stressed that this proposal can be applied in the short term, pointing out that this initiative enjoys political support because it is considered a safe, sustainable and reliable package and provides a safe route to reach Gaza, so this initiative is a research track with the countries of France, Greece and other countries and we are ready to work together to achieve this humanitarian goal.
