Leaked screenshots have revealed that WhatsApp is reportedly planning to release a version of its app for the iPad, a move that users have been requesting for years. The popular messaging application, owned by Meta Platforms, was initially developed exclusively for smartphones but has since become available on desktop computers.

According to the British newspaper, the Daily Mail, last month, a version for macOS was released. However, WhatsApp was still not available for Apple’s iPad, and currently, the only way to access WhatsApp on the device is to use WhatsApp Web through Safari.

Users have voiced their frustration about this issue for a long time, with one individual tweeting, “Why isn’t there a WhatsApp app for iPads? If you have a desktop app, what’s really stopping you?”

However, these issues might soon be resolved. According to WABetaInfo, tablet devices may finally receive their dedicated version of the WhatsApp application. The website states, “Finally, after a very long wait, we are pleased to announce that a compatible iPad version can now be installed through TestFlight for all beta testers who can already use the beta.”

There are also screenshots of the application, formatted for the widescreen iPad display, confirming that testing is underway. Currently, it remains in the beta testing phase and is not yet available to the general public.

TestFlight is an online service owned by Apple for installing and testing new applications. However, it is only available to developers within the iOS Developer Program. WhatsApp has not confirmed whether it will be released to the general public.

This potential development comes after years of iPad users eagerly awaiting a dedicated WhatsApp app, and if these leaks hold true, it could significantly enhance the messaging experience for iPad users. Stay tuned for further updates on WhatsApp’s plans for iPad compatibility.
