In a significant diplomatic move, Algeria’s Foreign Minister, Ahmed Attaf, held crucial talks with officials from various international and regional organizations, including the Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit. The primary focus of these discussions revolved around the ongoing crises in Libya, Mali, and Niger.

These discussions were part of Attaf’s participation in the ministerial segment of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly, held today in New York.

According to the Algerian Foreign Ministry, Minister Attaf’s meetings were quite comprehensive. He met Omar Touray, the head of the Economic Commission for West African States (ECOWAS); Ahmed Aboul Gheit, the Secretary-General of the Arab League; Josep Borrell, the Vice-President of the European Commission; and Jean-Pierre Lacroix, the UN Under-Secretary-General in charge of peacekeeping operations.

The statement released further detailed that the talks between the Algerian Foreign Minister and these international leaders delved deep into the cooperative relationships and partnerships Algeria shares with these organizations. Moreover, they explored prospects for enhancing these ties to actively and effectively achieve peace, security, and development in the region. Algeria’s consistent efforts to promote dialogue as a tool for calming tensions and resolving existing crises in Libya, Mali, and Niger stood out as a key highlight during these conversations.
