The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has issued a strong call for intensified efforts to fight the menace of terrorism and extremism, recognizing their grave implications for regional and global security.
This call to action emphasizes the importance of collective coordination and dedicated efforts to eradicate these threats and address their severe consequences.
The UAE’s stance was reaffirmed during its participation in the third session of the Arab-Japanese Political Dialogue, held at the headquarters of the Arab League in the presence of foreign ministers from both Arab and Japanese sides.
Leading the UAE delegation was Ahmed Ali Al Sayegh, Minister of State.
The meeting, which included several Arab ministers alongside Yoshimasa Hayashi, Japan’s Foreign Minister, and His Excellency Ahmed Aboul Gheit, the Secretary-General of the Arab League, underscored the significance of Arab-Japanese relations and the commitment to activate collaborative mechanisms.
It stressed the necessity of ongoing coordination and consultation between the two sides to serve the shared interests of Arab and Japanese nations and address matters of common concern.
Minister Al Sayegh also announced that the UAE would host the 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in November 2023.
This coincides with the UAE’s declaration of 2023 as the “Year of Sustainability.” In his speech, he reiterated the grave threat posed by terrorism and extremism to regional and global security.
He called for increased efforts and collective coordination to combat these threats and mitigate their dangerous repercussions.
Furthermore, Al Sayegh highlighted the importance of joint action to secure maritime traffic, international trade, waterways, energy supplies, and contribute to maintaining global peace and security.
In this context, he emphasized that the UAE has invested significant efforts in preparing for the COP28 conference by coordinating with various nations, especially Japan, whose support and endorsement for hosting the conference are highly appreciated.
The UAE looks forward to active contributions and participation from Japan, given its significant capabilities in clean technology development and its capacity to promote sustainable economic growth.
