Nigeria‘s Foreign Minister, Yusuf Mietama Tujar, has voiced his country’s aspiration to join the ranks of the G20, currently chaired by India.

This sentiment was echoed during his address at the G20 Finance Ministers meeting in New Delhi, India’s capital. He emphasized Nigeria’s keenness to collaborate with India and become an integral part of the G20’s global decision-making process.

When asked about Nigeria’s intent to join the G20, Minister Tujar responded, “The European Union is a member of the G20 alongside many other European countries. There’s no reason why Nigeria shouldn’t be part of the group alongside the European Union.”

Additionally, it’s noteworthy that earlier in the day, the Nigerian Foreign Minister participated in a conference involving Indian and Nigerian businessmen in New Delhi. He encouraged India to share its technology and knowledge with Nigeria, pointing out that his nation requires further technological advancements and partnerships in the knowledge sector.

The G20, or Group of Twenty, is an international forum for governments and central bank governors from 19 countries and the European Union (EU). Its members represent the world’s largest economies, both developed and developing, and they discuss a broad range of global issues.

With Nigeria being one of the prominent economies in Africa and showing significant growth potential, its ambition to join the G20 underscores its desire for increased global influence and partnership.
