Canadian police have announced the discovery of the body of Syria’s former Transport Minister, Makram Obeid, in a forest in Montreal, nine days after he went missing. Obeid was known for holding various governmental positions in Syria. He served as the General Director of the “Communications Foundation” for two decades, from 1980 to 2000, and later took on the role of Transport Minister between 2000 and 2006. Following this, he was appointed as Syria’s ambassador to Spain and the Vatican.

Investigations are still underway to determine the cause of death and circumstances surrounding his disappearance, making this incident a mystery that has sparked international interest. The global community and several international media outlets are closely monitoring the ongoing investigations, eager for answers about the sudden disappearance and death of the former Syrian official.

Makram Obeid was a prominent figure in the Syrian government, and his extensive career included significant roles in the Syrian administration. His tenure as the General Director of the “Communications Foundation” coincided with a period of technological growth and development in Syria. Moreover, during his time as Transport Minister, he was responsible for overseeing various transportation projects and initiatives in the country. His later appointment as Syria’s ambassador to Spain and the Vatican highlighted his importance in Syria’s international relations.

Obeid’s disappearance and subsequent death come at a time when the Syrian government is under scrutiny from the international community for alleged human rights abuses and involvement in the ongoing conflict in the region. Although there is no indication that his death is linked to the Syrian government’s actions, it has nonetheless drawn attention to the challenges faced by former and current Syrian officials abroad.
