Algerian President Heads High Security Council Meeting

Algerian President Abdelmadjid Teboune presided over a meeting of the High Security Council, according to an announcement from the Algerian presidency.

The meeting, as stated in a press release, was convened to assess the overall situation within the country.

The High Security Council of Algeria serves as an advisory body responsible for providing counsel to the Algerian President on matters pertaining to national security, as outlined in the Algerian Constitution.

The council’s membership includes Teboune, Chief of Staff of the Army, Prime Minister, Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Interior, and Justice.

Additionally, it comprises the General Director of National Security, General Director of External Documents and Security (Intelligence), General Director of Internal Security, and the Commander of the National Gendarmerie (an armed force under the army responsible for judicial, administrative, and military police duties).
