Algeria’s Ministry of Defence announced the arrest of nine individuals on suspicion of supporting terrorism during military operations conducted between October 9 and 15.
The statement did not provide details about the identities of those arrested or the regions where the arrests took place, nor did it specify which terrorist groups the suspects were allegedly affiliated with.
In the same period, authorities also detained 46 drug traffickers and prevented the smuggling of 5 quintals of drugs across the border. Large quantities of narcotic pills were also confiscated.
Additionally, the army arrested 117 individuals and seized 33 vehicles, 102 generators, 63 jackhammers, five metal detectors, and equipment used for illegal gold mining. Explosives and detonating devices were also recovered.
In separate operations, 20 more individuals were arrested, with the confiscation of hunting rifles, three automatic pistols, and over 70,000 litres of fuel. The operations also stopped 41.07 tons of food intended for smuggling.
The coast guard was active during the same period, preventing several illegal migration attempts, rescuing 165 individuals, and arresting 652 illegal migrants from various nationalities across the country.
