The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported on Thursday that 8 people were killed in airstrikes by Jordanian military aircraft in the countryside of Sweida in southern Syria.
According to the London-based observatory, the Jordanian warplanes conducted airstrikes overnight from Wednesday to Thursday, targeting homes and a warehouse in two areas southeast of Suwayda, resulting in casualties and significant material damage.
The airstrikes by the Jordanian military targeted at least two houses in the town of Arman, leading to the deaths of 8 people, including two children and four women.
The number of casualties is expected to rise as there are still people trapped under the rubble, and there is information about additional victims.
The airstrikes also caused extensive destruction to homes in the town, prompting appeals from residents for rescue teams to rush to the targeted areas, lift the rubble, and retrieve the bodies of those trapped.
Additionally, a warehouse belonging to a local resident in the village of Malih in the southeastern countryside of Suwayda was also hit, resulting in damage to the warehouse and an adjacent house, with no reported human casualties at this time.
This marks the third instance this year where Jordanian warplanes have conducted airstrikes on Syrian territory.
Previously, the observatory reported that Jordanian military aircraft were carrying out airstrikes on Syrian soil as part of their security operations to combat drug traffickers and reduce smuggling activities through Syrian territory into Jordan from the Suwayda countryside.
