Seven people were killed on Saturday in two Russian airstrikes on a hospital in Sumy, northeastern Ukraine, as confirmed by Ukrainian Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko.
Klymenko reported via Telegram that Russian forces targeted the medical facility twice. The first strike resulted in one death and caused damage to several floors of the hospital, necessitating an evacuation.
While emergency responders and police were on-site to assist, a second strike occurred, targeting patients during the evacuation.
Authorities in the region reported a total of seven fatalities and 12 injuries from the attacks. Sumy is the main city in a border region that shares its name, situated near several Russian territories, including Kursk.
Regional officials stated on Telegram that the two Russian airstrikes were carried out using Shahed drones.
Ukrainian media outlets shared images showing multiple bodies on the ground, along with partial roof collapse at the hospital.
The Ukrainian volunteer group Dubrovat, which assists in rebuilding efforts, reported on Facebook that its members were present during the second strike.
