Several people, including officers, were killed and injured in an armed attack on a courthouse in Istanbul, Turkey.
The Turkish Interior Minister, Süleyman Soylu, reported that the attack at the Caglayan Justice Palace resulted in five injuries, including three police officers. The assailants, a man and a woman, were neutralized.
A security perimeter was established around the courthouse to investigate if there were accomplices and to determine the motives behind the attack.
Recently, masked gunmen killed one person during a service at a Catholic church in Istanbul, with the attackers believed to be associated with the Islamic State. The Turkish authorities captured the gunmen, who were foreign nationals from Tajikistan and Russia, and detained 47 people in raids across Istanbul. Islamic State claimed responsibility for the church attack, stating it was in response to a call to target Jews and Christians.
Last month, reports from Turkish media confirmed a random gunfire incident in Istanbul that left two people injured around noon in the Sultan Ghazi 75 Yil neighborhood. Two individuals on a motorcycle opened fire on a crowd gathered on the sidewalk while riding down Fuzi Cakmak Street, then quickly fled the scene. One person sustained a gunshot wound to the leg, prompting the immediate response of police and medical teams to the location. Additionally, five bullet casings were found at the scene, with two of them hitting a parked car.
These events are part of a series of attacks that have occurred in Turkey over the years, involving various militant groups including the Kurdish militants and Islamic State. Past attacks have targeted busy shopping streets, nightclubs, military personnel, and public gatherings, leading to numerous casualties. Turkey has responded to these threats with arrests and military actions against the groups involved
