Four separate blasts shook the governorates of Taiz, Marib, and Abyan in southern and eastern Yemen on Tuesday, resulting in 23 casualties.
The initial explosion occurred in the town of “Al-Hawi” in Wadi Abida, Marib province, triggered by a leftover war missile. Two other detonations occurred beneath Hija Al-Abd, south of Taiz, caused by improvised explosive devices (IEDs) targeting military patrols. Simultaneously, Al-Qaeda targeted southern military patrols in the Modia district, east of Abyan, overlooking the Arabian Sea.
In Marib, a local source reported to “Al Ain News” that a weapon trader known as “Saleh Samuror Al-Maqrahi” and his friend, an explosives expert, were dismantling a war missile he had brought home when it abruptly detonated. The catastrophic explosion claimed the lives of Al-Maqrahi, his wife, five of their children, and the explosives expert, and completely destroyed their home.
In Taiz, security sources informed “Al Ain News” of two explosions beneath “Hija Al-Abd,” on the road to the city of Al-Turba, south of the province. The first targeted a military patrol using a remotely detonated IED, while citizens discovered a second device before it exploded, injuring a civilian. According to the sources, the bombing that targeted the military patrol resulted in two soldier deaths and seven injuries, all originating from the “Al-Ma’amia” tribe.
Yemeni activists have accused the Muslim Brotherhood militias of being responsible for the two bombings that occurred in an area controlled by forces loyal to the Reform Party, aiming to disrupt the artery between Taiz and Aden via the “Hija Al-Abd” route.
These bombings near Al-Turba city occur just days after the assassination of United Nations official Mueyad Hameidi by an unknown gunman in the city, situated on the line connecting Taiz and Aden.
In Abyan, security sources told “Al Ain News” that an IED targeted southern military patrols in the Modia district, east of the province overlooking the Arabian Sea, killing three and injuring two others. The IED, reportedly planted by Al-Qaeda, claimed the lives of the commander of the first battalion in the third support and support brigade, officer Saddam Al-Saadi, and two of his companions.
Three days ago, the southern forces repelled an armed attack by Al-Qaeda targeting its positions in the town of “Wadi Al-Khayala,” one of the organization’s main strongholds in the Al-Mahfad district, east of Abyan. This is considered the fifth terrorist attack by Al-Qaeda this month, with a previous attack on July 4th in the town of “Al-Musayna’a” in Shabwa with a drone, and targeting the public road east of the city of Modia, east of Abyan with IEDs, resulting in nine injuries, including civilians.
According to exclusive statistics from “Al Ain News,” the first half of the current year witnessed more than 38 terrorist operations by Al-Qaeda, resulting in nearly 100 casualties, including prominent field officers and leaders of the southern forces.
