A truck driver opened fire on Sunday at the Allenby Bridge Crossing, also known as King Hussein Crossing, between the occupied West Bank and Jordan, killing three Israeli security guards before being shot dead by security forces, according to the Israeli military.
The attack occurred amid increasing violence in the West Bank, which has seen significant Israeli military operations and Palestinian attacks. The military initially reported the deaths of three Israeli civilians but later clarified they were private security guards working at the crossing.
The Allenby Bridge Crossing is the only international gateway for Palestinians from the West Bank that bypasses entering Israel, operated by private security alongside Israeli forces.
Violence in the West Bank has surged since the war in Gaza erupted following Hamas’s October 7 attack on Israel. Since then, Israeli troops and settlers have killed at least 662 Palestinians in the West Bank, according to the Palestinian health ministry. At least 23 Israelis, including security personnel, have died in Palestinian attacks during the same period, Israeli officials report.
