The Los Angeles County Police Department reported that three people were killed and several others injured in two separate shooting incidents in Los Angeles County shortly after the arrival of the New Year.

According to the “KABC-TV” channel, Hawthorne Police Department officers responded to a shooting report. A male victim suffering from gunshot wounds was transported to the hospital from the scene near a shopping center at the intersection of Crenshaw Boulevard and Rosecrans Avenue, as reported by “KABC-TV.”

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department stated that four other injured individuals arrived at area hospitals by other means. A female victim was later pronounced dead. “KABC-TV” noted that one of the other injured individuals was in critical condition, while three were stable.

No immediate arrests were made in the shooting, which is currently under investigation by the Sheriff’s office. Hawthorne is part of the Los Angeles metropolitan area, located in the southwest of Los Angeles County.

Authorities are also investigating a separate early Monday shooting incident in a downtown Los Angeles commercial building. This incident resulted in the deaths of two people and injuries to three others, one of whom is in serious condition. Police Officer Sandra Olivaras informed the Los Angeles Times that the motive behind the shooting was not immediately clear, and no additional information about the incident was readily available.

In 2024, the United States faced a continued crisis with mass shootings, a pattern of violence that has repeatedly rocked the nation. Each incident not only represents a tragic loss of life but also reignites the debate over gun control, mental health, and public safety.

One of the most horrific incidents occurred in Lewiston, Maine, where a gunman unleashed violence in a bar and bowling alley, resulting in 18 deaths. This tragedy was not an isolated event but part of a broader, disturbing trend of gun violence in America.

Earlier, in January 2023, an elderly gunman took the lives of 11 individuals at a ballroom dance venue in Monterey Park, California, highlighting the indiscriminate nature of these attacks. The year 2022 was particularly brutal, with several high-profile mass shootings across the country. In Colorado Springs, Colorado, a shooting at an LGBTQ nightclub claimed five lives, while a 15-year-old in Raleigh, North Carolina, was responsible for the deaths of five people. These incidents are a stark reminder of the diverse settings and motivations behind such attacks.

The United States has experienced a range of mass shootings in various locations over the past few years, including Highland Park, Uvalde, Buffalo, New York City, Oxford, Michigan, Indianapolis, Los Angeles, Boulder, Colorado, Atlanta, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Dayton, Ohio, El Paso, Texas, Virginia Beach, Virginia, and Aurora, Illinois. Each of these events, from 2019 to 2022, has contributed to the ongoing national conversation around gun violence.
