Dozens of people were killed and more than 100 injured in fierce clashes between the army and the Rapid Support Forces in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, and the city of Omdurman on Tuesday. Several neighborhoods in the capital were subjected to intense ground and air bombardment, resulting in significant human and material losses.
The Rapid Support Forces posted a video on their official Facebook page, claiming to show the moment they shot down a Sudanese army MiG fighter plane, the second to be downed in 48 hours.
As the number of civilian casualties rose, activists took to social media to call on citizens to donate blood and for medical staff to attend hospitals suffering from a severe shortage of medicines and other medical supplies.
More than 60% of hospitals have been forced to shut down in recent weeks due to the continuous bombing. The war has now entered its 75th day, with more than 3,000 civilians killed and around 5,000 injured in Khartoum alone, and thousands more in different regions of Darfur, which has been experiencing intense security chaos due to ongoing clashes for several weeks.
Both sides of the conflict are seeking to strengthen their military position in the capital, which includes the cities of Omdurman and Khartoum Bahri.
