Prominent Palestinian journalist Wael al-Dahdouh and cameraman Samer Abu Daqqa sustained injuries while reporting on an Israeli airstrike that struck a school in Khan Yunis, located in the southern part of the Gaza Strip, as per a report from Al-Jazeera.
According to an Al-Jazeera correspondent, Al-Dahdouh and Abu Daqqa were carrying out their journalistic duties in the vicinity of a school that came under attack by Israeli forces on Friday morning.
The injuries sustained by these two journalists were caused by missile fragments from an Israeli reconnaissance plane.
Al-Dahdouh suffered an arm injury and was subsequently transported to the Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Yunis for medical treatment.
On the other hand, Abu Daqqa is reportedly still on the ground and trapped inside Farhana School in Khan Yunis. Unfortunately, ambulance teams faced difficulties in evacuating the wounded from the school.
It is worth noting that members of al-Dahdouh’s family, including his wife, son, and daughter, tragically lost their lives in an Israeli airstrike that targeted a house in the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza on October 25.
Additionally, on Monday, Israeli military aircraft bombed the family home of Palestinian journalist Anas al-Sharif in the Jabaliya refugee camp in northern Gaza, resulting in the death of his father. This bombing occurred in the wake of threats received by al-Sharif from the Israeli military.
The Israeli military’s assault on the Gaza Strip has devastated schools and students, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Education.
The ministry said that 3714 Palestinian students have been killed and 5700 injured since the start of the conflict on October 7. Of those killed, 3679 were in Gaza.
The ministry also said that 209 teachers and administrators have been killed and 619 injured in Gaza, while two have been injured and more than 65 have been arrested in the West Bank.
