Authorities in the United States announced that a cargo plane crashed in Alaska, located in the far north of the country, with two individuals on board presumed dead in the incident.
According to Agence France-Presse, state police said the plane, a “Douglas DC-4,” took off around 10 a.m. and crashed moments after takeoff near the Tanana River.
The Alaska Department of Public Safety stated that the plane crashed on a steep hillside on the riverbank where it caught fire.
It added that no survivors have been found, indicating that the aircraft was carrying two individuals who are presumed dead in the crash.
Authorities released photos of the incident showing burning trees on the edge of a river covered with ice, with the wreckage of the plane barely visible.
The Federal Aviation Administration stated that it would participate in the investigation into the accident, noting that “the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board will conduct an investigation” into the crash.
The stricken plane is one of the few remaining aircraft of this model in the world and crashed shortly after takeoff from Fairbanks International Airport located in the heart of the vast state.
