Two Syrian soldiers were killed and six others sustained injuries in an Israeli airstrike on several sites in the countryside of Tartus and Hama.
According to a military source’s statement to the official Syrian news agency SANA, “At precisely 5:22 PM today, Israel carried out an attack with missile barrages from the direction of the Mediterranean Sea, targeting some of our air defense positions in Tartus.”
The source added that the attack resulted in the deaths of two soldiers and injuries to six others, as well as causing some material losses.
The military source further stated that at around 10:40 PM, Israel renewed its aerial attack from the direction of northern Lebanon, targeting some points near Hama, resulting in some material losses.
Israel has carried out hundreds of strikes on targets inside government-controlled parts of war-torn Syria in recent years, including attacks on the airports in the capital of Damascus, but it rarely acknowledges or discusses the operations.
The strikes often target Syrian forces or Iranian-backed groups. Israel has vowed to stop Iranian entrenchment in Syria.
