Two members of the Lebanese Hezbollah were killed on Saturday in an Israeli drone strike targeting two of their vehicles in central Syria, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

The Observatory reported that an Israeli drone fired two missiles at a car and a truck belonging to Hezbollah near the town of Qusayr, close to the Lebanese border in Homs province.

The vehicles were reportedly en route to the Al-Dabaa military airport. The strike resulted in the death of at least two Hezbollah fighters and injured several others.

This incident marks the third attack within a week targeting Hezbollah positions in Syria near the Lebanese border.

On Monday, an Israeli strike targeted a Hezbollah headquarters in the same region, killing eight fighters loyal to Tehran, according to the Observatory. Another simultaneous strike hit a location used by Iran-aligned groups south of Homs.

Additionally, an Israeli strike last Saturday targeted a car carrying a Hezbollah commander and his companion in the Dimas area, according to the Observatory.

The fate of those targeted remains unclear, and Hezbollah has not announced any casualties.

Since the onset of the Syrian conflict in 2011, Israel has conducted hundreds of airstrikes targeting the Syrian regime’s army and Iran-backed militias, including Hezbollah.

The frequency of these strikes has increased since the war between Hamas and Israel erupted in Gaza on October 7.

Israel rarely comments on its strikes in Syria but consistently reiterates that it will not allow Iran to establish a military foothold in the country.

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, since the beginning of 2024, Israel has carried out 41 strikes on Syrian territory, 29 of which were airstrikes and 12 ground attacks.

These strikes have resulted in the destruction of around 83 targets, including weapons depots, military posts, and vehicles.

These attacks have led to the deaths of 141 military personnel and the injury of 57 others, comprising members of the Revolutionary Guards, Hezbollah, Iranian-aligned militias, and Syrian regime forces. Additionally, 12 civilians have been killed, and about 20 others injured.
