The Somali Ministry of Defense has announced the death of 130 terrorists belonging to the extremist Al-Shabaab movement during recent military operations conducted by the National Army in various regions of the Galmudug, Hirshabelle, and Jubaland states.

In a press release reported by the Somali News Agency (SONNA) on Sunday, the ministry stated, “The National Army, in cooperation with local residents and international partners, managed to seize weapons and military equipment, as well as destroy locations affiliated with the terrorist enemy.”

The ministry extended its congratulations to the armed forces’ heroes for their increased national efforts, also expressing gratitude to the local population for their support and standing alongside them.

The Somali National Army conducted military operations against the terrorist Al-Shabaab movement in the villages of Merere, Mordile, Raqayle, and Aanoley, which are part of the Afgooye district in the Lower Shabelle region in the southwest of the country.

The agency reported that during this operation, led by the commander of the Fourteenth Battalion of the National Army, Major Ahmed Hassan Siyad, the terrorist elements were expelled from agricultural lands, and the army succeeded in destroying sites associated with the terrorists.

According to the agency, the armed forces secured the villages liberated from the terrorists.

It pointed out that the armed forces, along with international partners, are carrying out operations against rebels in various regions of the country, resulting in the deaths of leaders and members of Al-Shabaab militias affiliated with Al-Qaeda.
