A tragic fire in a school dormitory in Fangcheng County, Henan Province, Central China, resulted in the death of 13 individuals, as reported by the official Chinese news agency, Xinhua, on Saturday.
Xinhua stated that “at 15:00 GMT on Friday evening, the local fire department received an alert about a fire at the Yingcai School dormitory in Yanshanbo Village.” The agency also reported that one individual was injured in the incident and is currently receiving treatment in a hospital, where their condition is stable, according to Agence France-Presse.
Emergency services quickly responded to the scene, successfully extinguishing the fire by 23:38, as per the same source. The local authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the fire.
China often experiences incidents, particularly related to poor adherence to safety standards. In November, a fire in a coal production company building in Shanxi Province, Northern China, claimed the lives of 26 people and dozens were hospitalized.
