An Iranian official announced that 12 police officers were killed and 7 others wounded in a terrorist attack targeting a police headquarters in the city of Rask, located in the southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchestan. The prosecutor general of Sistan and Baluchestan, Shams Abadi, stated that the attack occurred at midnight, as reported by the Fars News Agency on Friday.
According to Fars News Agency, the group “Jaish al-Adl,” known for its opposition to the Iranian government, claimed responsibility for this criminal attack. Jaish al-Adl has carried out attacks targeting Iranian security forces in the Sistan and Baluchestan region, which borders Pakistan and Afghanistan, as reported by the German News Agency.
One of the most notable attacks previously carried out by Jaish al-Adl was the targeting of a bus belonging to the Iranian Revolutionary Guards in Sistan and Baluchestan in 2019, which resulted in the death of 27 Revolutionary Guard members and the injury of 13 others.
Iran has experienced a series of significant terrorist attacks in recent times, reflecting the ongoing security challenges in various parts of the country. These attacks have primarily occurred in the southeastern region, particularly in the Sistan and Baluchestan province, which borders Afghanistan and Pakistan.
A notable attack occurred on December 15, 2023, when suspected members of the Jaish al-Adl separatist group launched a night-time assault on a police station in Rask, leading to the deaths of at least 11 security personnel. This attack is part of a broader pattern of insurgent activities in the region. Earlier, in October 2022, an armed separatist attack in Zahedan, the provincial capital, killed 19 people, including four members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. Additionally, the Shah Cheragh shrine in Shiraz has been targeted twice within a year, with the most recent attack resulting in several casualties. These attacks underscore the ongoing security challenges in Iran, particularly in areas bordering Afghanistan and Pakistan.
