In a concerning incident, a military vehicle rollover in Van, Eastern Turkey, resulted in injuries to 11 Turkish army officers and soldiers, with six listed in critical condition.
Our correspondent reports that the vehicle was on patrol in Yeşilbulak Village, Başkale region, close to the Iran border when the driver lost control, causing the vehicle to overturn and veer off the road.
Turkish security authorities have initiated an investigation to determine whether the incident was an attack by the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) or a mere accident.
The injured personnel were transported to Başkale Government Hospital, while those critically wounded were moved to Van Regional Training and Research Hospital for advanced care.
This incident follows another tragic event last week where a bus carrying high school students overturned in a valley in Southwestern Turkey due to rainy conditions, injuring 25 people, including 22 students.
The bus was travelling from Ortaca in the Gökçeik region on the Fethiye-Muğla highway when the accident occurred.
This series of accidents highlights the challenges and risks faced by military and civilian transports in Turkey’s varied terrain and under adverse weather conditions.
