Yemen has reiterated its commitment to supporting all regional and international efforts to end the ongoing conflict.
In a statement delivered before the United Nations Security Council, Yemen called on the international community and the Security Council to exert pressure on the Houthi group, urging them to embrace peace and dialogue and cease their escalation of conflict.
The statement, made by Yemen’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Abdullah al-Saadi, highlighted the ongoing challenges faced by Yemen.
Despite a decade of conflict, the Houthi group continues to undermine peace efforts and disregard the humanitarian suffering of the Yemeni people.
The conflict has persisted due to the Houthis’ refusal to engage constructively, instead perpetuating military escalations in key areas such as the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandeb, threatening international shipping, and exacerbating regional and global security concerns.
The statement condemned the Houthi group’s continued violations against civilians, including killings, displacements, and the destruction of homes, aimed at enforcing their agenda.
It also criticized the group’s economic warfare, which has prolonged the conflict and exacerbated humanitarian suffering, undermining any attempts to restore peace and stability.
Yemen emphasized the need for sustained pressure on the Houthi group and highlighted the importance of United Nations-led efforts and regional mediation.
The goal is to launch a political process that addresses the aspirations of all Yemenis for the restoration of state institutions that uphold rights, freedoms, and equal citizenship, contributing to regional and international peace and security.
The statement also addressed the economic challenges faced by the Yemeni government due to a halt in oil exports for over two years, resulting in the loss of 70% of government revenue.
Despite these challenges, the Yemeni government continues to implement measures to rebuild trust in state institutions, enhance transparency, and drive economic and financial reforms. These efforts aim to mitigate the economic, social, and humanitarian impacts of the conflict and restore stability.
