Xiaomi has unveiled its new electric vehicle, the SU7, positioning itself as a strong competitor against the Porsche Taycan and Tesla Model S in the electric vehicle market.
The Chinese tech giant detailed that the new SU7 sedan measures 4.98 meters in length, boasting a sleek, sporty design with smooth lines. The car is equipped with Xiaomi’s HyperOS operating system, ensuring seamless integration with the company’s suite of applications.
Featuring an advanced 800-volt technology, the SU7 is available in both rear-wheel and all-wheel drive configurations. It delivers a power output of 220 kilowatts and a maximum torque of 400 Newton-meters, and a higher variant offers 475 kilowatts of power with 838 Newton-meters of torque.
In terms of performance, the SU7 can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.8 seconds, reaching a top speed of 265 km/h. The vehicle also boasts an impressive range, capable of traveling up to 800 kilometers on a single charge, thanks to its 101 kilowatt-hour battery.
In terms of production, Xiaomi has partnered with the state-owned BAIC Group for manufacturing its cars in a Beijing factory with an annual capacity of 200,000 vehicles. Despite the crowded Chinese EV market, Xiaomi is aiming to become a top automaker within the next two decades, investing $10 billion in the auto sector over this period.
However, Xiaomi faces tough competition not only from international brands like Tesla but also from domestic powerhouses like BYD, which is rapidly gaining a significant market share in the EV sector. The company’s efforts to integrate its successful smartphone technology into its vehicles reflect a broader trend in the industry, where the lines between consumer electronics and automotive technology are increasingly blurring.
