The Regional Director of the World Health Organization (WHO), Ahmed Al-Muzayen, has reported that the Israeli military has carried out 68 direct attacks on health institutions in the Gaza Strip.
These attacks have resulted in at least 490 fatalities, including 16 healthcare workers, and the deaths of 29 UNRWA (United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees) employees. Additionally, over 100 ambulance vehicles have been destroyed, and several hospitals have been forced out of service.
Al-Muzayen emphasized that the direct targeting of hospitals in Gaza is occurring in full view of the world. He called on the international community to take a serious stance against this blatant violation of international principles and laws, as the situation has become extremely challenging.
The ongoing attacks on healthcare facilities in Gaza have raised serious concerns about the accessibility of medical services for the Palestinian population. The World Health Organization and other humanitarian agencies continue to monitor and respond to the evolving health crisis in the region.
The Health Ministry in the Gaza Strip declared on Tuesday that the healthcare system in the region has completely collapsed due to the Israeli military campaign.
Speaking at a news conference in Gaza City, ministry spokesman Ashraf al-Qudra revealed the severe impact of the conflict on the health infrastructure.
Al-Qudra reported that Israeli strikes since October 7 have resulted in the death of 65 medics, the destruction of 25 ambulances, and the forced closure of 12 hospitals and 32 healthcare centers.
The dire situation is exacerbated by a lack of fuel, raising concerns that more facilities will cease operations in the coming hours.
The death toll from ongoing Israeli airstrikes in Gaza has reached 5,791 people, with victims including 2,360 children, 1,292 women, and 295 elders. Injuries have been reported for 16,297 people.
