WhatsApp has launched a new feature that allows users to manage Channels via a new section called “Channel Settings”.

Users will be able to choose when images and videos shared within channels have to be automatically removed from the device.

Meanwhile, the platform cannot immediately delete channel media from the user’s device as the default option is set to “Never”.

This can cause users to pile on a huge amount of channel media on their devices over time and may lead to storage issues.

Through this feature, WhatsApp will offer users greater control over how long a media remains on their device.

This tool will bolster the experience as users will no longer need to manually manage their channel media to free up storage space on their devices.

Earlier this month, WhatsApp announced plans to enhance its in-app shopping experience with the introduction of “Flows”. The feature will allow users to perform tasks such as selecting flight seats or making appointments without exiting the app.

This new tool will provide businesses with a variety of building components, including text boxes, calendars, and seat selectors, to customize their in-app experiences.

The company has announced that these resources will be rolled out to merchants in the upcoming months.

The intended applications of Flows, as highlighted on its support page, encompass activities like appointment bookings, product tailoring, account logins, form completions, and event registrations.

Nikila Srinivasan, VP of business messaging at Meta, emphasized to TechCrunch the company’s ambitions in the realm of shopping and e-commerce.

She stated: “Our objective is to evolve business messaging, enabling richer engagements directly within chat threads. The feature is integral to this vision.”
