Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro has called on his supporters to delete the messaging app WhatsApp, owned by Meta, claiming it is used by “fascists” to spread violence, according to Bloomberg.

During a mass rally organized by the youth wing of the ruling party, Maduro urged for a “voluntary, progressive, and radical” withdrawal from WhatsApp, indicating a shift towards using Telegram and the Chinese messaging app WeChat.

“Through WhatsApp, they threaten the military family, the police, street leaders, the community, and anyone who does not openly support fascism,” Maduro stated.

On Sunday, Maduro also claimed that TikTok and Instagram are used to promote “hatred” and vowed to regulate their usage.
