Samuel Werberg, the regional spokesperson for the U.S. State Department, spoke about the developments in the Middle East, stating, “The United States does not want to sponsor any escalation in the region and is taking measures to prevent it.” He highlighted that over 300 rocket and drone terrorist attacks from Iran have endangered entire populations in the region, not just America, as these rockets could land anywhere.

In a Skype interview from Dubai with Extra News channel, Werberg mentioned that the U.S. is taking all necessary actions to prevent Iran from engaging in destabilizing activities. Simultaneously, the focus remains on all efforts required to end the war in Gaza, including releasing hostages and completing negotiations, as well as efforts to deliver humanitarian aid to the sector.

Werberg emphasized that despite these destabilizing activities and recent attacks from Iran, America is taking all steps to avoid any escalation in the region. He noted that under President Joe Biden’s administration, there is a recognition of the important role the United Nations plays in these issues, adding that recent terrorist attacks from Iran will be discussed in the Security Council, potentially leading to a new resolution to condemn Iran.

The recent tensions between Iran and Israel escalated dramatically on April 13, 2024, when Iran, in coordination with its allies, launched an unprecedented large-scale aerial attack against Israel. This operation, named Operation True Promise, involved approximately 300 drones, and numerous cruise and ballistic missiles targeting various locations across Israel and the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights. This attack was a response to an Israeli airstrike on April 1, which targeted an Iranian consulate in Damascus, killing several Iranian officials.

The international community has reacted strongly to these developments. The European Union condemned the attacks as a serious threat to regional stability, while leaders from countries like Germany and the UK urged restraint and reaffirmed their support for Israel’s security. China and other nations have called for calm, emphasizing the need to avoid further escalation and to focus on diplomatic solutions to the conflict.
